EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill amends the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act to add Urban Class Parks as a new class of provincial park, the objective of which is to improve access to compatible nature-based recreation in or near urban centres. The Bill also authorizes the Lieutenant Governor in Counsel to make regulations adding new classes of provincial parks and specifying objectives for such parks.

An Act to amend the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, 2006

His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1 (1)  Subsection 8 (1) of the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, 2006 is amended by adding the following paragraphs:

   7.  Urban Class Parks.

   8.  Such other class of park as may be prescribed by the regulations.

(2)  Section 8 of the Act is amended by adding the following subsection:

Objectives: urban class parks

(8)  The objective of urban class parks is to improve access to compatible nature-based recreation in or near urban centres.

2 Subsection 54 (1) of the Act is amended by adding the following clause:

(0.a) prescribing classes of parks for the purpose of subsection 8 (1) and specifying the objectives of each prescribed class;

Commencement

3 This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

4 The short title of this Act is the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Amendment Act, 2024.
