EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill amends the Legislative Assembly Act to reduce the salary of all members of the Assembly to $500 per week until all emergency orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic, except those orders relating to hospitals and long-term care homes, are revoked.

The Bill also amends the Executive Council Act to eliminate all salary for members of the Assembly under that Act until all emergency orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic, except those orders relating to hospitals and long-term care homes, are revoked.

An Act respecting the salaries of members of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1 The Legislative Assembly Act is amended by adding the following section:

Temporary salary reduction — COVID-19

62.1  Despite sections 61 and 62, the salary of every member is $500 per week until all emergency orders under the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020 and the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, except those orders relating to hospitals and long-term care homes, are revoked.

2 Section 3 of the Executive Council Act is amended by adding the following subsection:

No salary during COVID-19 pandemic

(6)  No member of the Assembly shall receive any salary under this section until all emergency orders under the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020 and the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, except those orders relating to hospitals and long-term care homes, are revoked.

Commencement

3 This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

4 The short title of this Act is the We’re All in This Together Act (Cutting MPP Salaries to CERB Equivalent), 2021.
