2021 Winner

Indigenous Toronto: Stories that Carry this Place, edited by Denise Bolduc, Mnawaate Gordon-Corbiere, Rebeka Tabobondung, Brian Wright-McLeod (Coach House Books, 2021) is the winning entry for the 2021 Speaker’s Book Award. The Honourable Ted Arnott, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, made the announcement at a virtual ceremony last night. 

Indigenous Toronto: Stories that Carry this Place is a unique anthology that brings together contributions by Indigenous Elders, scholars, journalists, artists and historians to explore the history of Toronto as a place of uninterrupted Indigenous presence and nationhood over a twelve-thousand-year history. It also delves into the vibrant Indigenous culture and presence that thrives in the city today. 

Indigenous Toronto: Stories that Carry this Place will be available for sale at the Legislative Gift Shop and featured in the Legislative Library.
