Subcommittee report

Assignment of ministries

The committee met at 1308 in committee room 1.

Subcommittee report

The Chair (Ms. Jane McKenna): Good afternoon. The Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly will now come to order. The first item on the agenda is the report of the subcommittee on committee business. Can a member please read it into the record?

MPP Singh from Brampton East has moved the adoption—

Interjection.

The Chair (Ms. Jane McKenna): Oh, okay. Go ahead; sorry.

Mr. Gurratan Singh: Thank you, Madam Chair.

I have here the Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly report of the subcommittee on committee business.

Your subcommittee on committee business met on November 21, 2018, to consider the method of proceeding on its review of the Legislative Assembly’s television broadcast system and recommends the following:

That the committee invite the director of the Broadcast and Recording Service to appear before the committee to provide information and recommendations on how to update the assembly’s television guidelines and to provide recommendations on how to improve the television broadcast system.

I move that the report of the subcommittee be adopted.

The Chair (Ms. Jane McKenna): MPP Singh, Brampton East, has moved the adoption of the subcommittee report. Any discussion? MPP Bailey.

Mr. Robert Bailey: I wanted to bring up that I thought it was a very informative tour that the director took us on. It was my first time in the attic of this building. It was very interesting up there. I think all of the members probably had a very informative session that day, so I was glad we went ahead with that information sharing and had an opportunity to see the visual aspects of the building and what was there.

I don’t know whether the other members had some comments or not, but I know I was quite impressed myself with the work that the broadcast people do, both in the House and the audiovisual, and the parliamentary record that they keep at Hansard. For that, I thank you, Chair, and Madam Clerk, for arranging that visit for us.

I don’t know if any of the other members want to comment?

The Chair (Ms. Jane McKenna): Any further discussion? Are members ready to vote?

Mr. Robert Bailey: Can we call for a 20-minute recess?

The Chair (Ms. Jane McKenna): Yes, we can. The committee will come back at 1:30.

The committee recessed from 1310 to 1330.

The Chair (Ms. Jane McKenna): The committee has resumed. MPP Singh, Brampton East, has moved the adoption of the subcommittee report.

All those in favour, please raise your hand.

All those opposed, please raise your hand.

The motion is carried.

Assignment of ministries

The Chair (Ms. Jane McKenna): The second item on the agenda is the draft report pursuant to standing order 111(b), which you have in front of you. Any discussion?

Mr. Robert Bailey: Madam Chair?

The Chair (Ms. Jane McKenna): MPP Bailey.

Mr. Robert Bailey: Yes, sorry. The main change in here, I guess, just for the committee’s and my edification, is where the “ministry responsible for francophone affairs” would be changed to the “Ministry of Francophone Affairs,” correct?

The Chair (Ms. Jane McKenna): Correct.

Mr. Robert Bailey: Okay, thank you.

The Chair (Ms. Jane McKenna): Any further discussion?

Ms. Rima Berns-McGown: That’s the only change, correct?

The Chair (Ms. Jane McKenna): Yes.

Shall the draft report be adopted? All those in favour, raise your hands, please. All those opposed? It’s carried.

Shall I present the report to the House? So ordered.

There is no further business on the agenda. The committee stands adjourned.

The committee adjourned at 1331.
