STANDING COMMITTEE ON ESTIMATES

COMITÉ PERMANENT DES BUDGETS DES DÉPENSES

Tuesday 16 November 2021 Mardi 16 novembre 2021

Committee business

The committee met at 0900 in committee room 1 and by video conference.

Committee business

The Chair (Mr. Peter Tabuns): Good morning, everyone. As—MPP Parsa, sorry.

Mr. Michael Parsa: My apologies. I just wanted to just run this by my colleagues and all of you.

The selection of the estimates here: We completed this study back, I think it was—what was it? April to June, if I’m not mistaken. Yes, it was April to June. All of these studies had already been done and handed in.

The House had actually authorized us to sit more hours to conduct our business. We sat over the summer. So I’m just wondering—if my colleagues agree, I actually move to adjourn this committee.

The Chair (Mr. Peter Tabuns): I have to check. My understanding is we actually have to go through the selection to meet statutory requirements, but if the Clerk advises me otherwise, I’m very happy to adjourn.

The motion is certainly in order, MPP, and so we will have a vote on it.

Mr. Michael Parsa: Would you mind, sir, if I just add one more thing, if that’s okay with you?

The Chair (Mr. Peter Tabuns): Be my guest.

Mr. Michael Parsa: Thank you. Just for some context for my colleagues, it’s because these studies actually have to be submitted to the House by this Thursday. That’s the rationale behind it. I just don’t see that we have any time to be able to make any selections or to be able to meet with anyone.

The Chair (Mr. Peter Tabuns): Okay. The motion is a viable motion. Then I will ask all those in favour of the motion that has been put by MPP Parsa—oh, MPP Armstrong? Yes, I can see your hand. Please.

Ms. Teresa J. Armstrong: Yes. I just need to ask, what is the purpose of not doing a selection in the event things change, in the event something does come up where there is time for the selection?

Interjection.

The Chair (Mr. Peter Tabuns): MPP Armstrong, I am advised that, in fact, this is not a debatable motion. I’m quite happy to fill you in after the committee meeting, but I have been informed this is not a debatable motion. It is in order. And with it being in order, we will go to the vote. Unless there are questions about having the vote itself, and I don’t see any, can I have all those in favour of the motion please indicate by raising your hand.

MPP Armstrong? Sorry, my apologies.

Ms. Teresa J. Armstrong: No worries at all. Can we ask for a recorded vote on this motion, please?

The Chair (Mr. Peter Tabuns): Yes. I think everyone is agreeable; a recorded vote is not a problem. Okay. Thank you.

I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge that MPP Toby Barrett has joined us. MPP Barrett, would you just confirm your identity and the fact that you’re in Ontario?

Mr. Toby Barrett: Good morning, Chair. It’s Toby Barrett in the province of Ontario. Thank you.

The Chair (Mr. Peter Tabuns): Okay. So we will now go to a recorded vote on the motion by MPP Parsa to adjourn this meeting.

Ayes

Barrett, Cuzzetto, Ghamari, Hogarth, Mitas, Parsa, Pettapiece.

Nays

Armstrong, Monteith-Farrell.

The Chair (Mr. Peter Tabuns): Okay. The motion passes.

I must say that in future, MPP Mitas, you must always bring your children because it makes the meeting so much cuter than it was before.

And with that, this meeting is adjourned. Thank you all.

The committee adjourned at 0904.
