If so, seize this opportunity to live our values as part of our Precinct Properties Branch (PPB) in Toronto, ON.  PPB is responsible for capital projects and the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the historic Legislative building and grounds. We are seeking a highly motivated and energetic Designer to assist in the development and coordination of design solutions.

What You’ll Do

You’ll act with integrity to:

  • Exercise professionalism, tact and diplomacy in a fast-paced, politically sensitive environment when dealing with MPPs, staff of the Legislative Assembly and vendors
  • Apply your knowledge in working with end-users and/or independent consultants in the development of design projects while ensuring all work meets current codes and guidelines
  • As one of your key talents, you must be able to ensure that cost effective and timely schedules, resources and solutions meet the needs, initiatives and priorities of the Legislative Assembly

You’ll support our collaboration as you:

  • Ensure quality of work from external consultants by reviewing designs and studies to ensure Legislative Assembly of Ontario (LAO) standards are met
  • Prepare drawings (floor plans, finishes plans, electrical plans etc…), specifications and budget estimates for internally designed renovation projects for construction tender under the supervision of the Senior Designer
  • Collaborate with the Senior Designer in the implementation of interior building standards and ensure building standards are observed and implemented in conjunction with building / restoration projects
  • Work with clients in the analysis of existing space and provide advice and design solutions for minor renovations
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of concurrent relocation, renovation and alternation projects from planned projects to unscheduled alterations

How You Qualify

You demonstrate excellence through your:

  • University degree or diploma in interior design or equivalent
  • Registered/Provisional member of ARIDO in good standing;  membership with an equivalent professional organization is an asset
  • Ability to take projects from concept design through to the completion of contract documents for tender and ensure design intent and objectives are maintained during contract administration design
  • Ability to read and comprehend architectural drawing sets
  • High level of organization and ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects
  • Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD with a strong understanding of drawing standards; additional experience with relevant software is an asset
  • Must possess strong documentation and reporting skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and current industry guidelines (i.e. Ontario Building Code, AODA)
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
